Bandera Electric Cooperative Mobilizes Workforce with Alvarion® 4G Network in Texas PDF Print E-mail

Alvarion’s BreezeMAX Extreme solution to power wireless broadband for utility technicians working for Bandera Electric

Washington D.C., May 2011 Alvarion Ltd. (NASDAQ: ALVR), the world’s leading provider of 4G networks in the Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) market, today announcedthat Bandera Electric Cooperative, Inc., a member-owned electric cooperative since 1938, has adopted a 4G network operating in the 5.8 GHz frequency range.

“Alvarion’s 4G wireless solution, deployed by Hill Country Wireless & Satellites Inc. and Wireless Connections, will allow our linemen and technical service personnel to stay connected across our service territory,” said Richard McDonald, IT Coordinator of Bandera Electric. “We are looking forward to a true mobile workforce. Reliable wireless broadband connectivity will help us work more efficiently and serve our members effectively no matter where we are.”

The new commercial network will provide broadband connectivity to linemen and technical service personnel operating 45 utility trucks. Bandera Electric needed a network that made outside personnel more accessible, more productive, and enable them to be truly mobile.

In June 2010, Bandera Electric completed the task of exchanging its existing meters with a sophisticated AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) system that communicates meter readings faster and more reliably. Control Center technicians also know when a customer is experiencing a power outage using the new Outage Management System.

Before the wireless network from Alvarion, the outside personnel did not have access to critical information in the field causing unnecessary delays in correcting field issues. Now with the 4G wireless access, utility workers will be accessing the utilities private network securely and have real time information of the electric grid in their vehicles.

Bandera Electric’s utility service is quite advanced, supporting only Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and providing advanced electronic system monitoring capabilities for real-time utilization and outage information that will be monitored from the company’s fleet of trucks.

"Utilities projects are a fast-growing market sector for us as a 4G provider. We are committed to providing utilities advanced broadband wireless solutions that are tailored to our customers needs," said Eyal Rudnik, vice president of Alvarion’s Enterprise Global Business Unit. "Bandera Electric knew they needed to overhaul their electric grid in a timely and cost-effective manner and today they operate a completely digital AMR network that improves the service that they deliver to their customers."
