Bloosurf ISP Selects Alvarion® Solution for Rural Wireless Broadband Network in Maryland
ISP has teamed with three universities to provide broadband services and highspeed
campus-wide connectivity
Washington DC, August 02, 2011 — Alvarion Ltd. (NASDAQ:ALVR), the world’s leading
provider of 4G networks in the Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) market, today
announced that it was selected by Bloosurf, a rural broadband service provider in
Maryland, for its 4G wireless broadband network to serve three adjacent counties and
university campuses. Bloosurf will be providing the last-mile network of broadband service
using Alvarion’s end-to-end 4Motion® network solution operating in the 2.5 GHz spectrum.
Bloosurf was awarded Federal Stimulus funds to bring broadband to Worcester, Wicomico
and Somerset counties, as well as Smith Island. Alvarion’s 4Motion solution will enable
Bloosurf to offer reliable, ultra-fast service to educational, residential and commercial
customers. 4Motion combines BreezeMAX® and other best-of-breed systems to provide a
complete ecosystem at the network level, enabling operators to be most responsive to a
diversity of subscriber needs.
Bloosurf will provide broadband services which will benefit around 126,000 people, 6,000
businesses and 351 community institutions. Paul Carliner, president of Bloosurf called the
service an unprecedented offer that would be better than anything offered in Baltimore or
Washington. In areas such as the regional university campuses that are more populated,
Bloosurf will offer wireless broadband service through partnerships with the University of
Maryland Eastern Shore, Salisbury University and Wor-Wic Community College. Bloosurf
has partnered with the universities to provide thousands of students on three campuses
with consistent, high-speed connectivity to the university networks and to the Internet.
“The flexibility of Alvarion’s solution will enable us to roll out the wireless network so that
the higher density areas, such as campuses serving thousands of savvy users, are
consistently connected, while we continue to deliver optimally to our business and
residential users,” commented Carliner. “Its comprehensiveness will allow us to do so in
the most cost-effective manner.”
“Rural wireless broadband has been an important market for us throughout our history.
Our focus on continuous technology advancements has enabled us to provide more
flexible, cost-effective solutions that can be deployed more quickly,” commented Eran
Gorev, president and CEO of Alvarion. “From the underserved to the unconnected, highspeed
wireless is transforming lives for hundreds of thousands every day, regardless of
their location or financial capability – we are excited to be a part of it.”
