WiMAX Rolls into Illinois PDF Print E-mail

Norwalk, OH September 1, 2008 – WiMAX is now live and available in Springfield, Illinois. EOS, operators of the Springnet1 Internet service, has enhanced their already existing Wireless network using Alvarion’s BreezeMAX equipment taking it to the next level - WiMAX.

When asked why the decision was made to use WiMAX, Anthony Hopp, co-founder of EOS, answered, “We want to increase the level of service to our customer while protecting our investment in wireless infrastructure.” Their existing network serves 550 subscribers, both residential and business. EOS has plans to grow the number of subscribers to 1000 by the end of 2009.
EOS was founded in 1995 with the primary purpose of creating a private, nationwide computer network for bankers. Success came quickly and soon EOS operated the largest private network for bankers in the country. During the fall of ‘95 EOS rolled out its internet service, Springnet1. By early ’97, Springnet1 rolled out wireless.

EOS acquired their Alvarion BreezeMAX gear from Wireless Connections in Norwalk, OH. “Wireless Connections has been EOS’ primary supplier of radio gear since 2000,” states Anthony Hopp. He goes on to say, “I have never had a case where a Wireless Connection staff person did not help us in every way that they could. Also, Mike in particular has been providing us with RF engineering at no cost since we became as a customer in 2000.” Wireless Connections is an Alvarion Platinum AIRPartner based in Norwalk, Ohio.

According to Mike Cowan, President and CEO of Wireless Connections, “EOS has always run a quality operation. We are pleased to assist them in their efforts to add a quality, high end WiMAX offering to their existing products.”
EOS is very specific about the equipment they deploy. “Since 1997 EOS has deployed Alvarion gear in 13 markets.” As to why, Anthony says, “Alvarion has always delivered a product that meets or exceeds specifications, avoiding exaggerated performance claims.”
